Special Installations on Campus
Design and Installation of a Multiservice Network, Special Installations and Platform for Monitoring, Control and Use for University Campus.
NeedsACERCA collaborated with the architectural studies and then as the need arose, developed integration plans for a diverse range of installations in large building complexes and adjacent areas.
This case study looks at the needs of a sprawling university campus that must integrate diverse systems to meet its technological needs:
- Access to a common information network and connections with telecommunication operator services
- Security systems and access control
- Energy efficiency solutions
- Individual billing systems for consumption
- Residential automation
- Centralised control of facilities
- Process automation
- PA and audiovisual systems
SolutionTo carry out this project, we proposed a series of systems that would be integrated via a hardware/software platform capable of maintaining continuous monitoring and control of multiple elements that coexisted in a global system.
The common interconnection element is a Multiservice Network hybrid Fibre optic Coaxial (Backbone HFC) that connects all of the buildings and common security systems and access controls. Inside each building the network extends through a high speed structured cable that directs the services to IP technologies.
In SECURITY, the complex is equipped with a perimeter security system with infra-red detectors, microwaves and cable sensors to detect non-authorised access. The video surveillance cameras that run around the perimeter provide preventative surveillance for any movements and employ an alarm to protect the area from intruders. Access to the area depends on the user's authorisation and is controlled by a system equipped with radiofrequency; restricted buildings and areas could make use of other biometric technologies like fingerprint recognition.
ENERGY EFFICIENCE is based on lighting and HVAC control with different function modes (programmed, intelligent, automatic with delay and manual delay). Both the season of the year and centralised lighting control offer relevant information for decision making.
CONSUMPTION COTNROL can be applied to the electricity network, water supply, telephone, Internet access, etc. making it possible to authorise or limit consumption, as well as to privately bill each system, offering an alternative to community contracts with the accompanying savings in costs.
INTEGRATION with other systems for industrial management of the complexes and buildings (Building Management System, BMS) offers additional value for decision-making, preventive supervision and minimizing costs and maintenance.
Finally, let' not forget AUDIOVISUALS. Ranging from simple PA systems to audiovisual control of auditors, including corporate solutions in classrooms or multimedia presentation rooms with projectors, videoconference, professional sound and furniture that is harmoniously integrated with technological infrastructures.
In addition to designing the engineering project, ACERCA's solution includes chapters referring to technical management of special installations, installation and integration of some subsystems and their certification.
BenefitsProvides a unique platform for interconnection and management of Campus systems that simplifies technical and administrative activities making them more profitable.
The integrated non-stop monitoring system informs of the need to replace equipment and material and simultaneously informs and programmes maintenance. This reduces delays and discomfort as well as minimising maintenance costs.
It's possible for the end users to modify certain parameters in order to personalise the services to meet their needs.
Emergency situations or problems that arise outside working hours are much more manageable thanks to interconnected systems that minimize problems and increase security.
The result of all this is personalisation of resources and services for the user while providing management the benefits of cost saving from the moment of design and construction through the end of the building's life cycle.
Similar CasesThe Campus solution has much in common with other cases such as Commercial Centres, Technology Parks, private housing developments, etc. - all included in the list of products and services offered by ACERCA.
